In 1853, the first American naval expedition arrived
in Japan and marked the start of US-Japan relations.In
1854, the two countries made it official by signing a Treaty
of Peace and Amity.
Celebrating the 150th anniversary, hundreds of events are held throughout
the US and Japan.
